Finished Friday

Earlier this week I got this idea that will hopefull motivate me a little to finish my bigger works in progress. Finished Friday. Every friday I will have finished one big (ish) project, take a good picture of it, play with editing a little and write about it on my blog. I have lots of project bags lying around, so there should be enough for me to choose from. And otherwise.. well.. I can always start new projects and finish them in time.

For this week it's not going to be anything craftsy though.
Today we harvested our patatoes! That's sort of like finishing a project, right?

We dreamed of a tower filled with potatoes, but that didn't really work out as good as we had hoped, we only had one layer of the tower filled with potatoes.. We still got a lot though, for a little garden experiment. We don't eat them very often, so this should get us pretty far untill harvest time 2014.

I can't wait to make "Stamppot", mashed purple potatoes with orange carrots, how's that for fun food?

Meanwhile in the garden...

Plants and fruit are growing good! The first tomatoes are starting to grow on our plants. In the picture is the big tomatoe we have, but the cherry tomatoes are doing very good as well. Lots of little flowers, and the first tiny green tomato babies. We were worried about them, because the potatoes were being kind of rude and hanging all over them. Tomatoes are apparently tough little buggers and grow right through them. The blue berries are already picked and eaten. Not as many as we hoped, but they were delicious! 

And beets girls and guys, just look at them with their pretty red and white circles.

The weather has been fabulous. Very warm, maybe a little too warm but the plants liked it, so it's all fine. We took our doggies to the local lake. Little Daisy didn't like it one bit. While she usually likes to play with other doggies, now she just got moody and chased them all off, growling, having little maltese tantrums because we were swimming and she didn't dare. I'm afraid we did have a little laugh over her. 

My sweet shepherd Sofie though, she was a hero! She has never swam before, didn't dare either, but now we were in the lake as well, she put on her brave hat and swam right to us. Such a brave puppy! After a few rounds of swimming she even seemed to enjoy it. And what's better than a normal cuddle? A wet cuddle :)

I think I already told you I got this pattern, and in between all the other things we did, I finished this little elephant. Isn't she adorable! This little elephant does have some balancing issues, her head is too heavy, but I guess that's just because she's so smart.

She has a dream of joining the circus..

And then, last but not least: My pretty Mollie sticking her nose in my business. Sweet thing.

Summer time

Potatoes in bloom, beets are growing, tomatoes finally planted outside, we're having new strawberries everyday and we bought a table so we can finally sit outside. We've been eating outside every good day since we have it, it's so nice. I absolutely love how our garden looks right now, it finally feels like *our* garden. And I just can't wait to see how many potatoes we get!

We have had friends over for good summery evening time, very lovely. My little dyeing oven got to double as campfire for marshmellow goodness, omnomnom  :) 

Quiet Day

The chestnut trees behind our house are in bloom, so pretty. 

 GG is away all day, first a job interview and after he's visiting friends who live on the way back. I'm making myself pesto pasta and enjoying a well needed day alone.


I'm spending it admiring our potatoe plants, watching crime series, drinking tea and working on my blanket a little, and the second Happypotamus I just *had* to start. I have the African Flower Bear pattern as well, but I first need to buy some hooks, which I forgot to order with my last big wool order. Oh well, peanut butter, will get them next week. 

Sofie is keeping me company. Little miss doofy face.

This cutie came to live with us two weeks agao. She totally got here by accident, I just can't say no to a sweet bunny who needs a home. She doesn't have a proper name yet, right now we're calling her "Metal Headje" because of her lovely long black hair, it will probably stick. I'm hoping to match her to our other bunny, but so far, they're not really liking each other, bunnies are mean ladies.

Of tomatoes, fire places and nosey pets

The baby tomatoes needed a bigger pot, awww, they're growing up so fast. After repotting they also moved from the little room upstairs to the living room, for more sunlight, I'd like to be able to repot them in their final pots and put them outside as soon as possible. Cat Mollie had to poke her nose in of course, all our pets seem to have that little problem. More on that later.

I've given up on the pepper plants, they don't want to come up, I'm afraid I've killed the seeds, leaving them out in the shed all winter. Better luck next year, with all the other vegetables and fruits we have enough plants to take care of.

Dear GG built me a new fire place. A better one!

I haven't been dyeing lately because the tripod I used to put my kettle on, boke down on me a few weeks ago. Luckily no one was standing next to it when the boiling hot water came gushing down with the kettle. But having the new fire place means I can dye again, happy me! It's a good thing too, the onion peels are starting to take over our kitchen. 

I told you all our pets have to "help" us with whatever we're doing right? Here's Sofies ear with the heat resistant glue stuff GG used for the fire place.

April's garden

Time really does fly by, wow.

April has been busy with all sorts of things that weren't craft related. Fun things though, sports events, birthday parties, gardening.. We have a lot of vegetables and fruits this year, potatoes, red beets, parsnips, strawberries (lots!), tomatoes. We also have two kinds of berry bushes and tomorrow I'm picking up cucumber seeds from a friend, because all the other plants really aren't enough yet ;) Our garden is only tiny, but I'm sure it will look super cozy later when all the plants are big. Right now they're just starting to come up. So much fun to see those teeny tiny plants pop up out of the dirt.
